Edibles

Edibles Delivered Across Manhattan, With the Dosing Explained Properly

Edibles are the category people get wrong most often, and almost always for the same reason. They do not behave like anything else on this menu. Cannadreams stocks gummies, chocolates, chews, mints and baked goods, delivered free to every Manhattan neighborhood and available for pickup at 862 9th Ave.

Why an edible feels different

When you inhale cannabis, THC crosses from your lungs into your bloodstream in a couple of minutes. When you eat it, it goes through your stomach and then your liver first. Your liver converts a good portion of it into a related compound, 11-hydroxy-THC, before it ever reaches your bloodstream.

That conversion is the whole story. It is why an edible takes longer to arrive, why it lasts several hours rather than one or two, and why the character of it feels heavier and more physical than smoking the same amount. It is not a stronger version of a joint. It is a different experience with a different clock.

The clock, and the mistake everyone makes

Onset is typically thirty minutes to two hours. On an empty stomach it can be quicker. After a large meal it can be slower still. The peak usually lands somewhere between two and four hours in, and the tail can run six to eight hours or longer at higher doses.

The mistake is redosing at the forty five minute mark because nothing has happened yet. Then the first dose arrives, the second arrives on top of it, and an evening that was meant to be pleasant becomes something to sit through. Take one dose. Wait two full hours. Only then decide.

How to ladder a dose

New York caps a single serving at 10mg THC and a package at 100mg. That structure is useful, because it makes the ladder easy.

If you have never had an edible, start at 2.5mg. If you are new but not nervous, 5mg is reasonable. Ten milligrams is a standard single serving and a comfortable dose for most people with some tolerance. Twenty five and above is for experienced consumers who already know how their body handles it. Regular smokers frequently discover their inhalation tolerance does not transfer, so do not assume it will.

Cutting a gummy in half is entirely fine and is the sensible way to find your number.

Ratio products, and what CBD is doing there

Plenty of our stock is not straight THC. A 1:1 product carries equal CBD and THC. Higher CBD ratios, 5:1 or 20:1, carry proportionally more. CBD is not intoxicating on its own, and many people find a ratio product produces a gentler, more even experience than THC alone at the same milligram count. If a straight 10mg has previously been too much, a 1:1 is worth trying before writing edibles off.

You will also see CBN and CBG in the cabinet, usually in evening formulations. They are minor cannabinoids and the effects are subtler than the marketing suggests, so judge them on your own experience.

Format actually changes timing

Anything absorbed partly through the mouth arrives sooner. Mints, lozenges and hard candies held rather than chewed can begin working faster. Chocolates and baked goods, with more fat, tend to be slower and longer. Fast acting gummies use emulsion technology to shorten onset, sometimes to fifteen or twenty minutes, and the packaging will say so plainly.

Keep chocolates cool. Keep everything, without exception, away from children and pets, in the original child resistant packaging.
