This is the part worth understanding, because a tincture can behave two entirely different ways depending on how you take it.
Held under the tongue, some of the cannabinoid is absorbed straight through the tissue in your mouth into the bloodstream. That route skips the digestive system and tends to begin working in fifteen to forty five minutes.
Swallowed, it goes the same way an edible does, through the stomach and liver, and arrives an hour or two later with a longer, heavier character.
In practice most people get a mix of both, because holding a full dropper under your tongue perfectly still is harder than it sounds. If you want the faster route, hold it for a genuine sixty to ninety seconds before swallowing, and do not eat or drink for a few minutes afterwards. If you would rather have the longer version, just swallow it or stir it into something.
Cannabinoids are fat soluble, so they have to be suspended in a fat. MCT oil, usually derived from coconut, is the most common because it is thin, neutral tasting and absorbs readily. Olive and hemp seed oils appear too and carry more of their own flavour. Glycerin based tinctures are sweeter and water compatible, which suits mixing into drinks, though absorption is generally a little slower.
None of these is a shortcut or a compromise. They simply change the taste and, slightly, the timing.
This is why tinctures exist. Every bottle states total milligrams and volume, and every dropper is graduated. A 1000mg bottle at 30ml carries roughly 33mg per millilitre, so a quarter dropper is about 8mg.
That lets you do something no gummy allows, which is move in increments of one or two milligrams. Start low, hold it for two hours, adjust, and repeat over several days until you find your number. Titrating like this is far more reliable than halving a chocolate and hoping.
Keep the dropper clean and do not touch it to your mouth, since that is how you contaminate the bottle.
Plenty of our stock is not straight THC. A 1:1 carries equal CBD and THC. A 20:1 is CBD dominant with only a trace of THC and is not meaningfully intoxicating at normal doses. Higher CBD ratios tend to feel more even and less sharp than THC alone at the same milligram count.
You will also see CBN and CBG blends, most often in evening formulations. They are minor cannabinoids, the effects are subtler than the packaging suggests, and the honest advice is to judge them by your own experience rather than the label copy.
Cool, dark and upright, with the cap on properly. Light and heat degrade cannabinoids and the oil itself can go rancid eventually. A cupboard is fine, a refrigerator is better for anything you will take months to finish, and a sunny windowsill is the worst place in the flat. If a tincture separates slightly, shake it before use, which is normal.
